Heightened Security Measures
Delhi Police have ramped up security measures across the city in preparation for the upcoming G20 Summit. Top world leaders, including US President Joe Biden, are expected to attend the mega event. Security forces, including paramilitary personnel and senior Delhi Police officers, were deployed at strategic locations like Tilak Bridge as a precautionary measure. This action was taken in response to threats of property defacement by certain Khalistani elements in the area.
Metro Service Impact Clarification
Amid concerns about potential disruptions to metro services during September 8-10 due to G20 Summit security measures, Delhi Police officials clarified the situation. They stated that the Supreme Court metro station would be the only one affected, with possible temporary closures of entry and exit gates at other stations for security reasons. However, these closures will not result in a disruption of train services. Delhi Metro rail Corporation (DMRC) had earlier announced that although some station entrances and exits would be closed during the G20 Summit, traffic would continue through one or two gates at these stations.
The G20 Leaders’ Summit is scheduled to be held in New Delhi from September 9 to 10, attracting top leaders from around the world. US President Joe Biden is among the prominent figures expected to visit India for the event, with his visit scheduled for September 7 to 10.
