David McCallum, the British star who brought “Ducky” Mallard to life, departed this world at New York Presbyterian Hospital on the morning of September 25. The actor, originally from Glasgow, Scotland, passed away from natural causes, surrounded by his loving family during his final moments. His passing comes less than a week after celebrating his birthday.

David’s illustrious career included a pivotal role in the 1960s spy fiction series “The Man From U.N.C.L.E.” His most enduring role, however, was as the lovable and enigmatic “Ducky” Mallard in NCIS, a spin-off of the hit series JAG. NCIS first graced our screens on September 23, 2003, and it recently entered its 20th full season.
In honor of David’s memory, a 20th-anniversary NCIS marathon will include a special “In memoriam” card, ensuring that fans have the opportunity to remember the last remaining original cast member of the show.
Remembering a Legend
NCIS executive producers Steven D. Binder and David North shared their sentiments about the loss of their esteemed colleague: “For over twenty years, David McCallum endeared himself to audiences around the world playing the wise, quirky, and sometimes enigmatic, Dr. Donald ‘Ducky’ Mallard. But as much as his fans may have loved him, those who worked side by side with David loved him that much more.”
They continued, “He was a scholar and a gentleman, always gracious, a consummate professional, and never one to pass up a joke. From day one, it was an honor to work with him and he never let us down. He was, quite simply, a legend. He was also family and will be deeply missed.”

CBS Studios, the home of NCIS, also expressed their condolences: “We are deeply saddened by the passing of David McCallum and privileged that CBS was his home for so many years.
